9:00am to 6:45pm - Thursdays *except before a holiday

The DMV is back to regular hours, 9am to 4:45pm, 6:45pm on Thursdays.  Please plan on arriving at least 1/2 hour prior to closing to be sure you get in on time for processing.

The Clerk's office is open 9am to 4:45pm, Monday thru Friday and are
closed from noon to 1:00pm for lunch.

COLUMBIA COUNTY LAUNCHES FRAUD ALERT TO NOTIFY PROPERTY
OWNERS OF NEW TRANSACTIONS
The Columbia County Clerk is providing a free new tool to help property owners protect one of their most valuable assets. With Fraud Alert, you can sign up to receive alerts whenever a document, such as a deed or mortgage, is recorded under your name. Documents can be viewed online or at the Clerk's Office.
Property owners can sign up for notifications when anything is recorded under their name(s). 

Here's how to sign up:
1.) Go to https://searchiqs.com/fraudalert?CC=NYCOL  and enter your email and names to be alerted on (up to 3)
2.) Check your email and click a link confirming your sign-up
3.)You will then receive email alerts for any documents that are recorded in the future
Please note there may be other property owners in the town that share the same name.

Effective February 1, 2024
Every person recording a conveyance of real property located in the Town of Chatham, must at the same time file a
Chatham Transfer Tax Form with the County Clerk as part of the document package, and pay the required amount of tax due, if any.
The Local Law No 7 of 2023 is located on the Town of Chatham Website: https://www.chathamnewyork.us/​ that gives the legal authority for this tax;

The median residential sales price is $370,000, to be entered on Schedule B, Part I, line 2 of the form for 2024;
Attach required document (s) if #13 on Schedule B, Part II is checked;

The fee for the Chatham Transfer Tax Form is $5.00 which should be included in the total payment.

Mandatory e-filing is expected to begin November 20, 2019.  For e-filing FAQ's click here or visit www.nycourts.gov/efile for more information. Beginning November 20, 2019, all legal papers must be filed by electronic means, unless they qualify for special exemption.  Additionally, legal papers required to be e-filed that are mailed to the County Clerk's office for filing must be postmarked before this date to avoid rejection.

in all New York State County Clerk’s Offices by the Attorney General’s Office that vacates 
certain Default Judgments filed by Leucadia National Corp, L-Credit, LLC, LR Credit LLC, and LR Credit 1-23, LLC.
 If you have a judgment against you filed by one of the entities listed above, please contact your County Clerk’s Office.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR PISTOL PERMIT HOLDERS
Recertification is still going on in NYS.  You have to recertify your Possess on Premises/Carry During Employment Permit with the NYS Police within FIVE years of your issue date!  You have to recertify your Concealed Carry permit within THREE years of your issue date/ last recertify date. This is an ongoing process that has not stopped.

NYS Police have changed their process and ONLY ACCEPT ONLINE recertification, they do not accept paper forms. Please click the link below and click the applicable choice to either check your status or recertify.
