Our Mission... It is the mission of the Columbia County Controller's office to safeguard the County’s financial assets to aid in the success and growth of the County by preventing fraud, identifying waste and reducing inefficiency. By acting as the watchdog, the Controller protects the taxpayer’s investment in their County Government. The Department strives to provide professional oversight and leadership pertaining to the financial affairs of Columbia County.
What we do... The Controller/Auditor is the chief auditing officer of Columbia County. The Department audits all bills paid by Columbia County, maintains records of appropriations, funds and expenditures, scribes approved methods of accounting for County officers and administrative units, examines all requisitions to certify the availability of funds and to encumber such funds for expenditure, and the retirement calculations and pensions. In addition, the Department maintains the General Ledger, develops the County's financial statements, assists in developing and implementing the annual and capital budgets, and manages the Mass Transportation program.
