On December 23, 2014, Goliath VanAlphen was arraigned in County Court by Honorable Richard M. Koweek upon his indictment for Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree, Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child, two (2) counts of Criminal Sex Act in the 2nd Degree, Solicitation in the 3rd Degree and six (6) counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse in the 3rd Degree. The New York State Police, Columbia County District Attorney's Office and Columbia County Child Protective Services investigated this matter. The New York State Police arrested Goliath VanAlphen. The Grand Jury indicted Adam Kitsock for two (2) counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree -- twice selling Heroin. Judge Koweek set bail at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
The Grand Jury also indicted Bradley Briggs for two (2) counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree. Briggs allegedly sold Oxycodone and Morphine in Hillsdale. On March 6, 2014, the Appellate Division, 3rd Department affirmed the judgment of conviction of Warren Powell. Powell had been convicted of murdering his wife, Mary Ann Powell. Powell was initially convicted of second degree murder in 1997. However, that conviction was overturned by the Appellate Division in 2004. Powell was re-tried in 2009 and again convicted of second degree murder. County Court Judge Hon. Jonathan D. Nichols sentenced Powell to twenty-five (25) years to life.
