The Department of Health works to protect, preserve and promote the health of the people of Columbia County. Our dedicated staff carry out that mission every day through a wide range of essential programs and activities that touch the lives of everyone in our county. Public health is community health.

Public Health Director, Nancy A. Winch

Disease prevention and health promotion protect entire communities, not just individuals, from communicable disease, epidemics, contaminated food and water and chronic disease such as heart disease and diabetes. All Columbia County citizens benefit from things like safe water, adequate waste treatment, safe food and restaurants, infectious disease control, wellness promotion, chronic disease prevention and treatment, immunized children, healthy moms and babies, and emergency preparedness.

The Columbia County Department of Health plays a vital role in these efforts, collaborating with the New York State Department of Health, local health care agencies and community organizations. We invite you to browse through these pages and learn more about how our department works in your community and with your community.
