Migrant Farm Worker Health Services

The Columbia County Migrant Health Program was created in 1994 to address the health needs of the large migrant farm worker population working on Columbia County and surrounding counties farms during the harvest season. The mission of the program is to protect and promote the health of the Columbia County migrant farm worker population through prevention, science and the assurance of quality health care delivery. The program currently serves migrant workers from Columbia, Greene, Dutchess, Rensselaer, Albany and Saratoga Counties.

The Columbia County Department of Health, Columbia Memorial Hospital and Saint Claire's Hospital staff provide services. Services include outreach health clinics that are offered at multiple Columbia County and Rensselaer farms, as well as a walk in clinic hosted by Columbia Memorial Hospital's Center Care (Family Care Center) in downtown Hudson. Migrant farm workers are offered dental evaluations, blood pressure screenings, vision screenings, immunizations and PPD (tuberculosis) testing. Since 1994 more than 1800 patient care visits have been completed. Services are generally provided from August through October.
