Emergency Preparedness/Bioterrorism

The Columbia County Department of Health is an active member on the Columbia County Public Safety and Security Committee. Through this committee our department has been working collaboratively with our emergency response partners to develop a countywide emergency response plan for both natural and man-made incidents.

While much of the recent press has focused on what we will do if an incident occurs, all of the agencies in the county are actively engaged in activities aimed at preventing an incident from occurring in the first place. While we continue to prepare at the local and county level, it is also important for all residents in the county to prepare themselves and their families for a disaster.

One question that is most frequently asked is "how do I prepare for a terrorist attack". Our advice is to prepare as you would for a severe winter storm, where the power is out for several days. By taking this approach, families and county citizens will be best prepared to respond and care for themselves and their loved ones, regardless of the type of incident faced. We encourage you to browse through the information provided below and to visit the related state and federal links for additional information.

The Columbia County Department of Health is committed to continuing to protect the residents of Columbia County, just as we have for the past 70 years.
