Columbia County Civil Service / Employment


Columbia County Civil Service offers exams for the public as well as promotional exams for existing employees. Please visit the links below to obtain a list of the current available tests. If you have any questions concerning any of the exams listed please contact Civil Service directly at (518) 828-6622, Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am and 4pm. Civil Service meetings held second tuesday of the month at 8:30am at the civil service office 401 State St Hudson, NY 12534.

To apply for an examination you must complete the application and return to Civil Service with the required filing fee. Please be sure you have both pages.

Personal Checks will no longer be accepted for the filing fee.

Cell phones and any form of communication devices are PROHIBITED from the exam site on the day of testing.

The Civil Service Office and the Human Resources Office have moved to the 3rd Floor, Room 4C at 401 State Street. Anyone needing assistance and unable to come to the 3rd floor should utilize the phone in the entrance and dial the following extensions for assistance:

Civil Service Extensions: 355 or 356
Human Resources Extensions: 302 or 303

Exam announcements will continue to be posted on the 1st floor.

You must fill out the application for employment (found in the menu on the left) and file it with the Civil Service Department for the exam you would like to take.

If your name appears on a Civil Service list and you are moving you MUST fill out the change of address form so that we can properly contact you.
